Broadband Speed and Connection Repairs

Slow speeds, dropouts and connections that never match what you pay for. We test the line, find the cause, and tell you straight whether it is yours to fix or your provider’s.

Slow, Dropping Out, or Never What You Pay For

Most broadband problems turn out to be a fault at the master socket or in the internal telephony, rather than anything your provider can see from their end.

We run speed tests and health checks on the line and compare the result against other houses in your area, so you can see whether you are actually getting what you should be. Then we advise on the best options open to you to achieve faster connection speeds.

Where the fix is at your end, we can usually sort it the same visit. Where it sits with your provider we will tell you that too, and we will still work with you to get the service resumed in the shortest possible time.

What Usually Causes It

Providers test the line up to your front door. Almost everything below is on the other side of that, which is why they cannot see it.

Old or Damaged Cabling

The most common one. Cable that has sat in the wall for decades, or has been caught by a nail or a drill, degrades the signal before it ever reaches the router.

The Master Socket

Cracked, loose or simply old. Fitting a new NTE5C is often the single biggest improvement, and we do it at around 70% off BT prices.

Where the Router Sits

Usually in the hall by the front door, because that is where the socket happens to be. Moving the socket puts the router where you actually use it.

Too Many Extensions

Every extension on the line adds noise. Daisy-chained sockets left over from the 1990s are a frequent culprit, and removing the redundant ones often helps on its own.

Damage from Building Work

New windows, fascia boards, rendering, an extension or a gardener with a hedge trimmer. External cable takes a lot of knocks.

Nothing at Your End at All

Sometimes the fault genuinely is your provider’s. We will say so rather than charge you for work that should be free.

Whose Problem Is It to Fix?

The master socket is the dividing line. It has been known for a provider to tell a customer the fault is internal when in fact it was theirs to fix. We will advise you within minutes of arrival which side of that line the problem falls on.

Getting the Connection Where You Need It

From genuine customers who wanted to share their experience.

“Just moved into a new house and the cables and sockets were everywhere. Northwest Comms relocated them all and took out any old and unnecessary sockets. They put my router behind my TV for my SkyQ service for me too. They’ve done a really neat and tidy job, at a fraction of the price that BT were quoting me.”

“Thanks to Northwest Comms who moved my master socket from the hall to the rear of the house by my main TV. Punctual, neat and reliable, a lot cheaper than BT!”
